Jamie Scholefield, a Cambridge and London-based freelance automotive photographer, has been capturing stunning shots of cars since 2020. His journey began with a simple passion for cars and a knack for spotting the extraordinary in everyday settings.
How It All Started
Jamie’s foray into photography began humbly, wandering around Cambridge with his phone, snapping photos and videos of cars that caught his eye. This hobby soon evolved into something more serious when he purchased his first camera, a Canon EOS 600D. “That’s where I got the inspiration to really dive into photography,” Jamie recalls.
Inspiration on Four Wheels
A self-professed car enthusiast, Jamie’s motivation comes from the thrill of seeking out rare, limited-production cars and capturing them in his own unique style. He spends much of his time traveling to and from car events, photographing anything from Ford Fiestas to Bugatti Veyrons. “I aim to tick off as many of the world’s most exclusive cars as possible, always refining my approach to create the best shots,” he says.
Events That Spark Creativity
When it comes to photographing cars, Jamie has a soft spot for concours and race events. These gatherings, with their rich automotive history and dynamic energy, provide the perfect backdrop for his work. “But I’m always open to trying new things,” Jamie adds. “No matter the car or the setting, I strive to create impactful images.”
The Tools of the Trade
Today, Jamie relies on a Sony A7II camera paired with a 50mm f/1.8 lens—often referred to in the industry as a “nifty fifty.” While shooting in tight spaces can sometimes be a challenge, Jamie finds the setup versatile enough for most scenarios. “It gets the job done,” he says, “and lets me focus on capturing the moment.”
Balancing Passion and Profession
For Jamie, photography remains primarily a hobby, though he occasionally takes on commissions for clients. “I enjoy the creative process and am always working to improve while ensuring my clients receive the best content,” he shares.
