The 2024 SEMA Show has kicked off, and as we stepped onto the bustling showroom floor, the sheer scale and spectacle were overwhelming. After a 24-hour journey from Australia, we hit the ground running to share the most jaw-dropping builds and standout exhibits with you. From trucks and muscle cars to cutting-edge concepts, here’s what caught our eye on Day 1.
Trucks, Cars, and Everything in Between
While last year’s SEMA leaned heavily into trucks, this year continues the trend, with massive rigs dominating the outdoor exhibits. But don’t worry, car lovers—there’s plenty for us, too. From the moment the doors opened, we were greeted by an endless sea of cars, parts, and exhibitors showcasing their craft.
SEMA isn’t just about quantity; it’s the quality of builds that amazes. Nearly every booth featured something extraordinary, and every corner revealed an iconic car or a bold new design. Whether it was an all-metal build, a jaw-dropping lowrider, or a supercharged monster, every car here told a story.
Highlights from the Show Floor
Engineering Marvels
One of the most memorable builds we saw was a wildly customized Camaro. Sporting a front scoop the size of a bulldozer and an equally massive rear wing, this car screamed performance. The engineering on display here was simply next-level. We also saw a tribute to Indy car racing—a stunning 1932 Ford Roadster with original Hildebrand wheels and brakes, an Arden flathead engine, and meticulous craftsmanship.
Timeless Classics
The Mustang purists weren’t left out. One Mustang stood out, powered by the same Boss 429 engine that made history. Another, a Frankenstein-like custom, blended classic Ford design with modern engineering, featuring independent rear suspension and an oversized differential. It was a perfect homage to Ford’s performance legacy.
Iconic Moments
At the Mothers Polishes booth, a meticulously restored Mopar, aptly named “Blowfish,” reminded us why salt flat racing is such a revered tradition. Setting a class record of 37.3 mph, it’s a car that proves speed and style can coexist.
Outdoor Adventures
Outside, the Toyota Tires area offered an eclectic mix of rugged off-roaders and sleek imports. Trucks ruled the roost, but there were plenty of standout cars, too. From a pristine Chevy Fleet Side to a Skyline-powered creation, it was clear that creativity knows no bounds at SEMA.
The Builders’ Stories
SEMA isn’t just about cars—it’s about the people who build them. We had the pleasure of speaking with Stanley Chavik, a Czechoslovakian-born builder, now crafting masterpieces in California. His latest project, a tribute to 1940s Indy cars, showcases his dedication to traditional craftsmanship, from hand-built aluminum components to the flathead-powered beast under the hood.
A Show for All Enthusiasts
From unveiling new builds to diving deeper into the world of performance parts and accessories. Whether you’re into vintage classics, cutting-edge designs, or the latest in automotive technology, SEMA has something for everyone.
